Rise: Blood Hunter

Rise: Blood Hunter
What: Another typical Vampire flick
Who: Lucy Liu, Carla Gugino, Michael Chiklis, James D’Arcy, etc…
How: Starts out like a horror flick with plenty of blood and body parts. Then imagine every Vampire movie you’ve ever saw and that’s how the rest of the movie is. Lucy Liu, a (tabloid?) reporter accidentally falls into a Vampire killing and is eaten/killed herself. She wakes up as a vampire and tries to kill herself but is saved by a mexican ‘Van Helsing’ type priest, who trains her to be a Vampire and a hunter, ala Blade.
After finding out that the writer/director of this is the same one who wrote Snakes on a Plane , I can see why this movie sucked. Lucy Liu’s acting was all over the place. Kick ass Buffy the Vampire Slayer one moment, then sniffling victim the next. Even her being nude was uninteresting and added nothing to this movie. Chiklis, who plays a cop out for revenge (cause his daughter was a victim) was pretty pointless too. Honestly the movie didn’t even require him to be in it, not even at the end. The vampire added nothing new to the movie either. Second rate vampires from the movie Blade in all it’s sterotypical roles. All are so easy to track and kill, one has to wonder why the mexican priest didn’t just kill them himself.
Plenty of cameos, but none makes it worth watching. This has the look of a Sci-Fi channel, Saturday night tv movie and I’m guessing will get the same amount of viewers too. The bootleg was kinda dark, but no weird angles or sound, pretty watchable.
