LOL, It’s DillDoe!

By DillDoe | July 23, 2007

Thanks to gnacissej’s hoodie tutorial over at craftster.org, I finally created the DillDoe hoodie!

First time sewing something like this (still remember how to use the sewing machine from home economics)
Wasn’t too hard, but the fabric I got was slippery so some of the lines are off. Not bad considering my first time at this.
Pretty much everything was found at Walmart (damn zipper was the hardest to find, and they don’t even carry white ones)

The shell (outside) was a Rayon type fabric (fake silk) so it’s perfect as a wind breaker or light rain coat. The cuffs and waist band are rib knitting I got at Jo Ann’s Fabric (Walmart didn’t carry it)

The inside lining was a thin cotton flannel, slightly thicker than an undershirt, but the same feel. The hood lining was this mosquito net type mesh sheer curtain fabric. I can see out, but others can’t see in.

The eyes & mouth were just black Lycra type fabric (the only cheap, good looking black fabric I found at Walmart). The eyes turns in to form kind like a goggle, a cool accident. The pupil was just drawn in with a sharpie. I was considering buttons or just use more of the black fabric, but worried it might rip the thin mesh during a wash. Plus the sharpie method still allows me to see perfectly.

The hood took the longest to make since I really have no reference. I came out a bit bigger than I had thought around the mouth area (My Profile looks like a Microsoft Dinosaur, no Traffic Cones pls) Took me over a week to finish it, still have some trims to add on the inside.

I plan to try another one if I have the time with Sweatshirt type fabric (No stores I know carries such thing, let alone white colored ones)
