The Ex

The Ex

What: Guy with pregnant wife loses job ends up working with his father in law and his wife’s Ex-boyfriend.

Who: Zach Braff, Amanda Peet, Jason Bateman, etc..

How: Unfunny is all I can say about this HUGE comedy potential. Zach is pretty funny on his show Scrubs, but doesn’t carry it onto here (the personality shows up, but not the funny) Amanda Peet is Amanda Peet, I think she acts the same in every role she plays…bland. Now I’ve never really seen the fan fav, Arrested Development, with Jason Bateman. I just remember him from The Hogan Family as the glorious bastard of an older brother. Which he carries onto this film. Sorry Braff, but Bateman stole your thunder in this film. You really want to hate him, but he does it with such charm that you just can’t stay mad at him.
I can’t stress how unfunny this film is. I laughed ONCE in the scene when Charles Grodin gets a desk lamp from his boss. The outtakes at the end was funnier than the whole movie, but not sure if most can sit thru the whole movie to see it.
I wasn’t expecting really that much from a movie filled with TV stars, but more than half the cast are from comedy shows (scrubs, SNL, Grounded for Life, etc…) and yet the movie fails at almost every gag & bits. Zach put your ego aside and resign with Scrubs cause the big screen ain’t for you (Garden state was boring as hell). From the bootleg (excellent quality by the way) it seems like a straight to DVD movie, but I guess some genius thought, “Hey Scrubs is doing great! Lets put this on the big screen instead, durr!”
